How Do u Tell If your Turtle Is A Boy or Girl?
Answers:
Depends on if this is an aquatic turtle or a tortoise. Aquatic turtles, the males will have very long (and I mean long - like Freddy Krueger) nails on the front feet, they use these to hold onto the female during breeding and to court her with before. Males also generally have fat tails that are longer than female's. The genital opening on the tail will be more towards the tip in a male, and more towards the body in a female. Hope that helps!

If you mean a tortoise, then you can sometimes tell by the tail, females have longer tails that wil lean to one side and males have shorter tails that just point down. Females also have flaring shells at the back.
For most species:
MALE- longer tail with the vent opening in about the middle, and an in-curved belly (plastron).
FEMALE- short, wide tail with vent near the base, and flat or out-curved plastron
It is really hard to tell for sure with ANY turtle until it is approaching breeding age/size.
Other species have other details:
- bright eye color is a male in Eastern Box Turtles
- male Sliders and some other 'pond turtles' have long front claws
- some male tortoises have plastrons that have 'battering ram' extensions that stick out under their heads
- In many species, there is a color and size difference- usually the male is smaller (unless the males typically fight for the females) and more colorful- but not in all species.

I recently bought a baby turtle and i was wondering how the heck to tell if it was a male or a female. i just assume hes a male, but i hope he isnt a female because i already gave a boy name (Scooter) and really dont want to have to change it.

Leave only one or two climbing branches, just enough to allow him to thermo-regulate. All surfaces should be as smooth and as easily cleaned as possible. It may be easier just to move him to a smaller more manageable space temporarily if his regular enclosure is large. Give the whole enclosure and branches a good wash before you start and remove droppings immediately.
Ian, the ARAV (Association of Reptile and Amphibian Vets) has a list of reptile vets on-line. You may be able to find a compassionate one there that can help you without breaking the bank. Good luck.

Well, I've seen it and I have a hysterical story about it. When I was a little girl, about 11, me and another kid had two turtles, and we decided to have a turtle race. We set the boundaries, and ready, set, go! Her turtle started running really fast, for a turtle. But mine just sat there. I was cheering him on but he just stayed there. Well, I was telling my mom about this story after the fact, and she was driving. You know how mom's listen, sort of with only one ear. Well, so I was telling her this way, "my turtle just sat there and wouldn't do anything. When suddenly, my turtle just took off, running really really fast. He jumped on the back of the other kids turtle, and they had sexual intercourse!!!" My mom slammed on the breaks and pulled the car over, and she goes, "Ok, tell me this whole story again, and start from the very beginning!" It was soooo funny, we've laughed about it for years. She wasn't paying a bit of attention to anything I said until she heard "sexual intercourse," which was the way I had learned it in school.

First is a courtship ritual, usually involving certain movements.
Next, the male climbs on the back of the female (who may try to dislodge him) and clasps the front of the female's shell. The male's belly shell (plastron) is in-curved to allow a better fit.
The male's tail is longer to allow it to reach under the female's and line up the vent opening with her vent opening. One the vents are lined up, things go pretty normally.
This is one of the few times many turtles make a noise. It can take a few minutes, or last an hour or so.

If the female is willing, they mate by the male going up onto the back of the females shell (piggy back style). How do the crab get into the pots on the show deadlist catch?

Hello...never watched the show, am guessing they would be like alot of other pots tho..open so things can crawl or go in, but they can't get out...usually wide where they crawl in, then narrower at the bottom of the entrance cuz many things if they can get their heads %26 shoulders in, they can't back out ...or they have a flap the opens from the pressure of the water flowing thru or can be push open but closes once they are thru .Take Care :)
the slots are kinda cone shaped so they can climb in but cant climb out
