Does anyone use a reptile heat pad inside their tank under the substrate?

is it safe to do so, according to the manufacturer habistat, it is,
i wanted to see if anyone used a heat pad under the substrate (wood chips) rather than under the tank as its a wooden viv. is it safe, wont cause a fire? how hot do the heat pads get have they a safety cut out etc
Answers:
people that say not to use an undertank heater are wrong. dont use it inside the tank, but put it underneath. monitor the temp with a thermometer.. digital thermometers can be bought at walmart for 5 bucks. you can get a thermostat at petco or petsmart to adjust the undertank heater if it gets too hot. also i always put some newspaper on the heater side of the tank because the glass will get hot, and if you use bark or wood substrate a snake will burrow to the bottom and it can be too hot if you dont have a thermostat.

yes you can use an infared light at night, but snakes need warmth from the air and from the ground. their stomache is on the ground all day and they will digest food better if the ground is warmer.

im assuming you have a snake. someone suggested getting a uv light. you dont need those with any snake or other noctoural reptile. they only come out in the wild at nigh and dont benifit at all from uv.
no no no FIRE FIRE FIRE, BAD BAD BAD, use a infrared lamp, and get a uva/uvb spectrum flourescent bar, make sure the pet can bask within 6" of the bar to absorb vitamin d3
i would not do that. if it is not helping under the tank, get an over head heat lamp. this is way safer. :)
heat mats go under the tank only (even if it is wood) and will still keep your reptile warm enough, if you are unsure buy a temperature Gage that goes inside the tank 2 keep check on the temperature.
I do not have my heat pad inside the tank and it is not a good idea. Snakes feel heat from their back or the top of their body. They can not feel the heat on their stomach and therefore can burn themselves.
NO, it's called an UNDER TANK heat pad for a reason. It goes under the glass/acrylic tank.
