can I take a guess and say you have a Chinese water dragon? if so they are the most common to do this. they rub their nose along the glass and never seem to get the concept of the "invisible barrier" you can put a 5 inch strip of birthday present wrapping paper around the base of your cage to help with this. it stops the reflection and shows them there is something in the way. if i am wrong about the type of lizard i would watch him and see how he is reacting when he does it is he jumping at something in particular such as your top cover? if so you may need to lower his climbing structure to make the cover less obtainable so he realizes he isn't even getting close.
ask your vet its probebly blind
If he is in a glass cage, he could be seeing his reflextion and getting aggressive.
Mine did that for a while, I covered the area he was doing it on, with a towel and it slowed and eventually stopped.
What kind of lizard? When is it happening? Is it inside the cage or when you have the lizard out? Please give more details. Vet visit would be a good start.
