Yesterday when i went to the pet store, i askied a lady about turtles. She then told me that turtles MUST have UV or UVB lighting. so i looked at UV light and there like 60 bucks for a 20 g aqaurium. So, do i need Uv lights or was that pet store lady tryin to rip me off?
Answers:
Turtles need both UVA and UVB lighting, and a heat lamp. It's preferrable to get the UVA and UVB from different bulbs, as the bulbs advertised as both generally do not emit them in usable amounts. Also, there is no substitute for direct sunlight - you should always let your turtle bask outside when the temperature is warm and the weather allows.
Yes, they need UV, but you can get them MUCH cheaper at Petco or walmart. I never paid that much...maybe $12-17 for a light.
Don't touch it when you turn it off (you'll be buying tons of them) Also, I had a black light for night time...on a seperate lamp...again for the bumping and burning out of the bulbs.
uva and uvb
you need a flourescent reptile light
