Eastern Milk Snake Feeding Tips?

Answers:
I'm assuming that this is a captured snake as I've never seen easterns for sale. At that size, it should be eating several fuzzy mice or 1-2 hopper sized mice / feeding, every 5-12 days. These snakes are natural snake eaters %26 will also eat small lizards, but I don't recommend feeding it a snake. They can sometimes become fixated %26 refuse all other food %26 it can be tough finding a source for feeder snakes. One thing you can try on a stubborn feeder is to pick up a product called "Make a Lizard". It's a liquid that most pet shops that deal in herps carry. Put a drop on the mouse you're trying to get the snake to eat %26 it will carry the lizard scent, something easterns like. This works well if your snake is refusing mice. Also, watch the temps. in the cage. If it's too warm, they either won't eat or will regurgitate their meal. Try to keep the temps in the warm spot around 80 degrees %26 in the cooler side around 70. I ran into this problem several years ago when I first started collecting easterns, they would eat well, but throw up the meal the next day. Once the temps. got under control (I had it too warm) they all settled in %26 I've had them for 5yrs. now with no problems. Good luck %26 these snakes are very beautiful, especially in the red phase.

Ypu want to give them a mouse that is roughly the same thichness as their neck. you want to boil water, then drop in a frozen mouse. once the mouse is fully thawed, warm and has no hard spots, give it to the snake. you want your snake to eat in a cage with no bedding. just place him in it, then inside his own tank. leave his heating lights on for ten minutes, then put in the warm mouse and turn of all the lights, shut the blinds, and leave. 20 minutes later, he should have swallowed the mouse. you can now turn his lights back on, and return him to his normal tank. but, leave him alone for the rest of the day. he will need to digest and stuff. repeat this process about every week and a half. thats how i feed my Corn snake, and Corns and Milks are almost exactly alike.
Feed 1 mouse per week, the mouse should be no fatter then the fattest part of the snakes body.
Well, in nature, milk snakes feed on a number of small vertebrates, including frogs, small rodents, other snakes and lizards. In captivity, most milk snakes will eagerly feed on domestically bred, pre-killed mice. Snakes should be well started on rodents prior to sale in a retail outlet. Never feed your milk snake foods procured from the wild, as they will transmit harmful internal parasites. As the snake grows it should be given proportionately larger food items. Babies with start on pre-killed pink mice, while adults of most sub-species can handle pre-killed sub-adult mice. A good rule of thumb when feeding any captive snake is that the food item should not be larger than 1陆 times the girth of the snake at its widest point.

Good luck :)
