Garter snake?

ive got a 20 gallon tank empty and i was thinking about getting a garter snake. what are the temperature requirements and what do they eat and how often?
Answers:
73-76 degrees u can feed them earth worms, goldfish, minows, frogs ( but not reccomended because u have to hear the frog cry as its being eaten alive) feed it just when ever u see it poop the old food out.
All the info you want to know is here at this site,
http://www.gartersnake.info/care/...
Garter snakes are fun, the petstore will tell you they only eat goldfish, but they need calcium too. So they will need a pinky mouse every month(to go with the few goldfish a week diet). Mine died of calcium deficency because of what the petstore people say! As for care a under the tank heater works great, they need a big swimming dish, I used sand as my substraite and a good secure lid(they are escape artisits!!!) A 20 gallon is big enought for Childerens pythons as well. I have one right now and he eats a dead hopper mouse a week.
Snakes eat big meals and then rest for a few days or weeks. Garter snakes eat a lot of insects so grey crickets, grasshoppers and worms would be good. 75 degrees would be a good temp with a basking light in one corner of the tank where he can warm up when he wants to. put a pie pan in there for water.
Good Luck!
Environmental conditions must be warm enough (between 68 and 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit) for the snake to adjust its body temperature to a preferred range for activity. The Garter Snake is active during daylight, mostly in July when temperatures are in its preferred range of 84.2 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Their typical foods are Earthworms and Amphibians. Mice, minnows, salamanders, frogs, and toads are also some of their less typical foods. The Garter Snake eats its prey alive and whole. I am not very sure how often they eat. Sorry. I think you should try feeding them a bowl of earthworms a day or something like that. Check out some sites that would have more information. Good luck and thanks for the two points!
u shouldnt be keeping gatner snakes as pets. They r supposed be out in the wild. Get another snake like a corn snake ( i have one )
Hello..if garter snakes are native to where you live it is usually illegal to sell them..if not ..find a reptile store in your area ... they don't usually survive in lands or states, they aren't native too !!! Take Care :)
