How do yellow bellied terrapins give birth?

do they lay eggs, do they need a male to do this, how long does it take, and doo they do it in captivity?
cheers!
Answers:
They lay eggs. They must have a male and female. They must be at least 5 years in age, which is when they first reach sexual maturity. Sometimes it take a day sometimes it takes years. It just depends on your pair. They do mate in captivity. Sometimes they wll have infertile eggs, say before they reach sexual maturity, and these are laid in water. Eggs laid in water are never fertile. If you plan to have your turtles reproduce you have to set the tank up properly with a sandy spot where the female can dig a tunnel to lay the eggs in and then cover them back up. Usually it's a good idea to remove the eggs from a captive turtle tank as sometimes the parents will eat them. Turtles do not care for their young or their eggs so there's no need to worry about them in that aspect. After careful removal, they need to be incubated. Eggs can take anywhere from 20 to 60 days to hatch depending on the humidity and heat in the incubator.
they are internally fertilized, so yes they need a male, but after mateing the male leaves, several weeks later the femal turtle lays eggs, then she leaves, the babies never see thier parents
