when i bought my igauna they said they like water and can swim. i was gonna put him in the bathtub but didmt know how long.

If you give him a way out of the tub, like put a board in that slants up so he can crawl out, he will play as long as he wants! this will be so cool! If you can take him outside to a small pond that is in a place where he can not escape that will be even cooler! He will pretty much play as long as he wants in the tub, then he will get out if he has a way out!
Keep the water warm and shallow so he can stand in it. Also-don't leave him alone. I would let him swim, or soak rather, for about 5 minutes. This is also good at helping them shed, so soak him when he's shedding. Never let the water go over his head-lizards can get a respiratory infection really easily this way!
