They are small box turtles and they swin quickly. I found a haven of them, but I don't know how I should catch one of the little buggers. I really need one, can someone help me?
by the way, fishing is legal where I found them, there shouldn't be any restriction to catch them
Answers:
You don't NEED one. If you need one, buy one from a pet store. It's illegal (this would be your legal restriction) to capture wild turtles, bad for the ecosystem, and it's bad for the turtle. Most wild turn captive turtles never adjust to captivity, they become stressed and uncomfortable, and their life span is cut greatly. Generally, a wild turtle will live for 20+ years. A wild turn captive turtle usually only lives less than 3 years in captivity.
If you want one, buy one from a breeder or pet store. Seriously. Also, this is not a snapping turtle. All turtles snap but snappers are land turtles and can't really swim so if these guys are swimming they aren't snappers. All turtles snap. It's their defense mechanism same with pulling in their shell and making a hissing sound.
is this a joke? i mean arent turtles the ones we joke about with their slowness lol
No he/she is right.. they are quite fast when they are in the water.. were talking about water turtles here.. land turtles are really slow yes.. but water ones.. dude... they are fast.. specially when young... I have 5 turtles i know what im talking about.
I have caught a turtle once when they were out of the water walking around from one side of a pond to the other.. SO you can try to sit someplace like that
or wait till they bathe under the sun. moslty they bathe on a peice of a log... if thats the case... make sure you got a big NET (like the ones you use for a pool) and fish it.
ok you don't need one. you want one, if you nedded one say to add to your collection then you'd know that box turte are not water turtles and that taking them from the wild is bad. the fishing laws are irrelevant because turtle are reptiles not fish. and more likely then not illegal to remove from the. if you want one so bad, buy one.
